Is there a Loyalist in Your Family Tree? – Janet Hodgkins, UE

The Niagara Peninsula became home to thousands of United Empire Loyalists after the American Revolution. Who exactly were the United Empire Loyalists? If you have ancestors who have lived in Niagara for about six generations, you may well have Loyalist ancestry. In this presentation Janet Hodgkins, UE will use examples from her own family tree and genealogical research to explain who the Loyalists were. Janet Hodgkins, UE, has been a member of the Colonel John Butler (Niagara) Branch of the United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada since about 2010. Janet is proud to be descended from 7 United Empire Loyalists. Janet resides in Wainfleet Township and has been the President of the Wainfleet Historical Society.
